What is  (S)-Equol?

(S)-Equol is a highly active chiral isoflavone produced by the metabolism of daidzein in soybeans by specific gut microbiota. It is also the only naturally occurring equol configuration in the human body, with only about half of the general population possessing the gut microbiota's ability to convert it. Direct supplementation can bypass this conversion bottleneck and significantly improve absorption and utilization. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator with a strong affinity for ERβ receptors, which are abundant in bones, brain, blood vessels, and skin, while having a weak binding affinity for ERα receptors, primarily in the breast and uterus.
