Product Overview

Aerosol OT (dioctyl sulfosuccinate sodium salt) is an anionic surfactant with the molecular formula C₂₀H₃₇NaO₇S and a molecular weight of 444.56 g/mol. This white to off-white waxy solid is one of the most widely used surfactants in research and industry, known for its excellent wetting, emulsifying, and dispersing properties. Synthetic Process

Aerosol OT is synthesized through the following routes:

• Esterification of maleic anhydride with 2-ethylhexanol: Maleic anhydride is esterified with 2-ethylhexanol, followed by sulfonation and neutralization.

• Purification: The crude product is purified by recrystallization from ethanol or other solvents.
