    Product Overview

    Acetaldoxime is an organic compound with the molecular formula C₂H₅NO and a molecular weight of 59.07 g/mol. This colorless to pale yellow clear liquid is a valuable building block in organic synthesis, featuring an oxime functional group. The compound is widely used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and various organic compounds. Its oxime functionality enables diverse chemical transformations, including dehydration to nitriles, reduction to amines, and Beckmann rearrangement to amides. It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor and as a reagent in analytical chemistry.

    Synthetic Process

    Acetaldoxime is synthesized through the following routes:

    • Reaction of acetaldehyde with hydroxylamine: Acetaldehyde is reacted with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of a base to form acetaldoxime.

Reacts as both a weak acid and as a weak base. Gives acetaldehyde and a hydroxylammonium salt if heated with aqueous acid. A nickel-catalyzed aldoxime rearrangement to an amide went out of control when a different solvent was employed [J. Loss Prev., 1993, 6(2), 69].
