Lotus leaf alkaloid is an apocynine-type alkaloid extracted from the dried leaves of the lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), a plant in the Nymphaeaceae family. It is the main lipid-lowering active ingredient in lotus leaves. Extraction is achieved using dried and pulverized lotus leaves as raw material, employing a series of methods including cellulase pretreatment, dilute hydrochloric acid extraction, ultrasonic-assisted extraction, and chloroform extraction. Traditional Chinese medicine considers lotus leaves to be bitter and astringent in nature, neutral in nature, and entering the liver, spleen, stomach, and heart meridians. It has the effects of clearing heat and dampness, promoting the upward movement of clear yang, cooling blood, and stopping bleeding. The main chemical components of lotus leaves include lotus leaf alkaloid, citric acid, and oxalic acid. Lotus leaf alkaloid is the primary component responsible for weight loss.
