• Orlistat (CAS 96829-58-2), also known as Tetrahydrolipstatin (THL) or Ro-18-0647, is a potent, irreversible inhibitor of pancreatic and gastric lipases, the enzymes responsible for breaking down dietary triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids . It appears as a white to almost white powder to crystal with the molecular formula C₂₉H₅₃NO₅ and a molecular weight of 495.73 g/mol . The compound is the saturated derivative of lipstatin, a natural pancreatic lipase inhibitor isolated from Streptomyces toxytricini .
