Potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II) is a red to red-brown crystalline inorganic compound containing ≥46.9% platinum. It is supplied at AR grade for catalyst preparation, pharmaceutical intermediates, and analytical applications. It is soluble in water and stable in air .

Synthetic Process
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II) is produced by the reduction of potassium hexachloroplatinate(IV) or by the reaction of platinum(II) chloride with potassium chloride.

Mechanism of Action
As a platinum(II) salt, it serves as a key precursor for the synthesis of other platinum compounds, including the anticancer drug oxaliplatin. It is also used as a catalyst and as a radiosensitizer in research .
