Product Overview
Ammonium thiosulfate is a white crystalline inorganic salt (or colorless solution at 50% concentration) that is very soluble in water. It is supplied at AR grade as a photographic fixing agent, analytical reagent, and reducing agent. It is hygroscopic and decomposes on heating.

Synthetic Process
Ammonium thiosulfate is produced by the reaction of ammonium sulfite with sulfur, or by the reaction of sodium thiosulfate with ammonium salts.

Mechanism of Action
As a thiosulfate salt, it acts as a reducing agent and complexing agent for metal ions. In photography, it dissolves silver halides as stable complexes during the fixing process.
