Description
Also known as red potassium prussiate and red prussiate of potash, K3Fe(CN)6 is poisonous, bright red,water-soluble crystals that decompose when heated. Used in calico printing and wool dyeing. Red prussiate (IUPAC name Potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), also known as red prussiate of Potash, Prussian red, and potassium ferricyanide) occurs as bright red crystals which are soluble in water. Potassium ferricyanide is manufactured by passing chlorine into a solution of potassium ferrocyanide. It i

Potassium ferricyanide Use and Manufacturing
Chlorine Oxidation Method The yellow blood salt potassium hot solution is oxidized under the action of chlorine gas at about 60-65°C to produce red blood salt potassium. When the pH value of the reaction liquid is controlled to be 6-7, stop the introduction of chlorine gas, then add a saturated solution of potassium permanganate, and test it as brownish red with ammonium ferric sulfate. Adjust the acidity and alkalinity of the material with hydrochloric acid so that the pH value is 7-8. After the reaction, the material is settled, filtered, and evaporated in vacuo to a relative density of 1.2, and then cooled and crystallized, centrifuged, and dried to obtain the finished product of red blood salt and potassium. The 2K4Fe(CN)6+C12→2K3Fe(CN)6+2KCl3K4Fe(CN)6+KMnO4+2H2O→3K3Fe(CN)6+MnO2+4KOH electrolysis method electrolyzes the saturated solution of yellow blood potassium salt below 60℃ , So that the yellow blood salt potassium will undergo an auto-redox reaction to produce red blood salt potassium and by-product potassium hydroxide. When the content of potassium ferricyanide in the electrolyte reaches 320/L, the cooling and crystallization starts, and the concentration is reduced to 280g/L, and the separation and drying are performed to obtain the finished product of potassium erythrocyte salt. Its 2K4Fe(CN)6+2H2O→2K3Fe(CN)6+2KOH+H2↑
Chiefly for blueprints; in photography; also for staining wood, dyeing wool, calico printing, as etching liquid (Mercer's liquor), tempering iron and steel; in electroplating; as a mild oxidizing agent in organic synthesis; in analytical chemistry.
