Description

Gastric mucin is a large glycoprotein which is thought to play a major role in the protection of the gastrointestinal tract from acid, proteases, pathogenic microorganisms, and mechanical trauma.

Mucins are high-molecular-weight glycoproteins expressed throughout the gastrointestinal tract, with a key role in mucosal protection and function. In gastric cancer expression of MUC5AC and MUC1 is reduced and denovo expression of MUC2 occurs.

It is white to yellow-white powder or yellow-brown granule with peptone-like odor and salty taste. Strong hygroscopicity, swelling in water, the aqueous solution is gray or milky white, it does not precipitate when it meets heat, and it is precipitated when it meets weak acid, and it can be precipitated by more than 60% ethanol or acetone in the solution.
