Benzocaine hydrochloride Use and Manufacturing

Benzocaine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride form of the local anesthetic benzocaine. Its pharmacological effects are the same as benzocaine, and its anesthetic effect is weaker than that of procaine. The local absorption is slow and the effect is lasting. Because it is insoluble in water, it cannot be used as an infiltration anesthesia. It has analgesic and antipruritic effects. The medicine is usually made into powder or ointment. It is clinically used to treat wounds, ulcers, burns, skin abrasions and hemorrhoids.
