Methods of Manufacturing

The double decomposition industrial borax is dissolved in water. If the solution is not clear, insoluble impurities are removed by filtration. The clear solution is added to the reaction kettle and diluted with water to about 6.5°Bé (50°C). The industrial manganese sulfate is dissolved in water, the solution is adjusted to 8.6°Bé (68°C), and the clear solution is added to the reaction kettle which has been put into the borax solution, while being fully stirred, that is, white manganese borate precipitates. After the addition was completed, the reaction was continued to stir for 1.5 h, at which time the Ph value of the solution was about 8. After the reaction is completed, the slurry is sent to pressure filtration, and the filter cake is washed with a mixture of methanol and boric acid aqueous solution, then dried at 70-80°C, and pulverized to obtain a manganese borate product. Its Na2B4O7+MnSO4→MnB4O7+Na2SO4

Uses

In drying varnishes and oils; as drier for linseed oil, 1:500; also in leather industry.
