Magnesium borate (MgB2O4) Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Sodium metaborate and magnesium chloride method Add sodium metaborate tetrahydrate, magnesium chloride and a certain amount of water into the reaction kettle. Under heating conditions, a white precipitate of magnesium metaborate is formed. Then the slurry is filtered, the precipitate is washed with water, and then dried to obtain a finished product of magnesium metaborate. 2NaBO2·4H2O+MgCl2→Mg(BO2)2·H2O+2NaCI+7H2O

Uses

Magnesium borate‌ can be used in the pharmaceutical industry, preservatives, fungicides, as well as as a material reinforcement, to strengthen and toughened polymer based (such as plastics, resins), metal based (such as aluminum, magnesium), ceramic based composite materials. ‌Magnesium borate has been used as a preservative and bactericide due to its antibacterial properties, which can inhibit the growth of microorganisms to a certain extent, thereby protecting the product from corrosion and pollution. Magnesium borate is also an important material reinforcement, which is widely used in the reinforcement and toughening of various composite materials, such as polymer base, metal base, ceramic base and other composite materials, to improve the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and wear resistance of these materials. Therefore, it has a wide range of applications in military, aerospace materials, construction, machinery, Bridges, automobiles, polymer materials and other fields.
