1,3-Dibromo-5-chlorobenzene Use and Manufacturing

A solution of 1, 3, 5-tribromobenzene (9.44 g, 30 mmol) in 120 mL of ether was cooled to -78 °C in a dry ice/acetone bath. n-Butyllithium (13.2 mL of 2.5 M solution in hexanes, 33 mmol) was added dropwise over 10 min. The resulting mixture was stirred at -78 °C for an additional 10 min, then hexachloroethane (7.15 g, 30.2 mmol) was added in small portions over 3 min. The reaction mixture was then stirred for 15 min at -78 °C, followed by 3.2 h at rt. The mixture was partitioned between 100 mL of water and 100 mL of EtOAc. The aqueous layer was separated and extracted with an additional 100 mL of EtOAc. The combined organic layers were then dried over MgSO
