N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is an N-silyl compound that is N-methyltrifluoroacetamide in which the amide nitrogen is replaced by a trimethylsilyl group. N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide is a derivatisation agent used in gas chromatography/mass spectrometry applications. It has a role as a chromatographic reagent. It is a monocarboxylic acid amide, a N-silyl compound and a trifluoroacetamide.

Uses

In the derivatization reagents used for gas chromatography, the derivatization of silane derivatization reagent with sample compound is carried out by substituting silyl groups for the active hydrogens of hydroxyl, carboxyl, mercapto, amino and imino groups. The product of the derivatization reaction is silicon ether or silicon ester. Almost all compounds containing these active hydrogens can derivatize with silylation reagents, and the order of their reactivity is: alcohol>phenol>carboxylic acid>amine>amide. Efficient silylation reagent, used to derive non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics from active silylation reagent. Suitable for amino, carboxyl, indolalkylamine, serotonin and tryptamine derivatization.
