(-)-Menthyl chloride Use and Manufacturing
Below 15°C, slowly add the menthol-petroleum ether mixture to the phosphorus pentoxide-petroleum ether mixture. Recover petroleum ether at 90°C, add water, cool to about 10°C, separate the water layer, wash with sodium carbonate solution, then wash with water until neutral, dry with anhydrous sodium sulfate, distill under reduced pressure, and collect 87.5-90 ℃ (1.73kPa) fraction, namely chloromenthol, the yield is 75%.
Organic synthesis intermediate. It is used in the synthesis of family planning drug phenyl alcohol ether (contraceptive spirit).
