1-Naphthalenesulfonic acid, 3,4-dihydro-3,4-dioxo-, potassium salt (1:1) Use and Manufacturing
1-Amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid is oxidized with dilute nitric acid. Due to the release of nitrogen dioxide, the resulting paste product is orange-yellow. Add saturated ammonium chloride solution to produce 1, 2-naphthoquinone-4 -Ammonium sulfonate. Dissolve it in bromine-containing water with activated carbon for decolorization, and then add saturated potassium chloride to precipitate potassium salt crystals, with a yield of 17-18%.
Dye intermediate. Sodium salt is also used for colorimetric determination of amines, amino acids and sulfonamide derivatives.
