Drug Information
Drugs that inhibit cholinesterases. The neurotransmitter ACETYLCHOLINE is rapidly hydrolyzed, and thereby inactivated, by cholinesterases. When cholinesterases are inhibited, the action of endogenously released acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses is potentiated. Cholinesterase inhibitors are widely used clinically for their potentiation of cholinergic inputs to the gastrointestinal tract and urinary bladder, the eye, and skeletal muscles; they are also used for their effects on the heart and the central nervous system. (See all compounds classified as Cholinesterase Inhibitors.)
N4-hydroxylamine is a known human metabolite of tacrine.

9-AMINO-1,2,3,4-TETRAHYDRO-ACRIDIN-1-OL Use and Manufacturing
Velnacrine (HP 029 free base) is an inhibitor for acetylcholinesterase (AChE), with an IC50 of 3.27 μM. Velnacrine reverses the Scopolamine (HY-N0296)-induced amnesia in rat models, and exhibits acute toxicity with LD50 of 65 mg/kg[1].
