Description
Brown; 6mm pieces and smaller [CRC10] [CER91]Barium arsenide has the molecular formula of Ba3As2. By passing arsine over barium oxide, at red heat, a mixture of arsenide and arsenite is obtained. The best way is to react the elements together at red heat: 3Ba + 2Ar Ba3As2 Since Ba metal melts at 729 °C, the metal is melted at 750 °C and vapors of As are passed over it in a stream of argon gas. Crystals of Ba3As2 slowly form in cooler parts of the enclosed tube furnace.
