Uranyl nitrate appears as a yellow rhombic radioactive crystal. Radioactive materials emit certain rays that can only be detected by instruments. Mildly chemically toxic. Unirradiated uranium is only mildly radioactive. Packages require no protective shielding. Noncombustible, but may accelerate the burning of combustible materials. Produces toxic oxides of nitrogen when involved in fires. Used to produce ceramic glazes.
