Intermediate 2A (12 g, 80 mmol) in POC13 (60.0 mL, 644 mmol) was heated gradually in a oil bath to 80°C causing some effervescence. The reaction was held at this temperature for 15 mm, then brought temperature to 120 °C gradually. After 3h at 120°C, the reaction was cooled to rt and the POC13 was removed under reduced pressure to give an oil which was dissolved in DCM (50 mL) and was reconcentrated and repeatingto afford a tan semi-solid. The mixture was cooled in an ice bath and cold water (75 mL) was added to make clear solution which was transferred to 1 L flask. With stirring the mixture was slowly neutralized by a dropwise addition of aq sat sodium bicarbonate until a pH of 7 was obtained. The cooling bath was removed and the mixture was stirred at rt for 30 mm. then was extracted with EtOAc (200 mL x 4) and the combined organicextracts were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford12.4 g (92percent) of a cream solid as the desired product. ‘H NMR (400MHz, METHANOLd4): 8.24 (d, J4.0 Hz, 1H), 7.34 (d, J=5.3 Hz, 1H), 2.67 (s, 3H).
