Description

Borate is the general term for pseudo-salts related to boron trioxide, usually only referring to the salt of orthoboric acid. It is monoclinic crystal system, pure colorless, but usually mostly white, light gray, light yellow, light blue or light rafter color, with a slight taste of astringent sweetness. It is easy to dehydrate in the air, the color becomes turbidity, and the surface appears white powdery skin. It is highly fusible, expands significantly when burned, and then melts into a transparent glassy pellet. It is soluble in water and the solution is alkaline. Borate includes metaborate, primary Borate, and polyborate, etc. The most important borate is sodium tetraborate, commonly known as borax. Borate precipitates boric acid with strong acid aqueous solution. The main Borate source in nature is borax related minerals, which can be used in the manufacture of borosilicate glass, ceramic glaze, transparent enamel, stain remover, water softening agent, fireproof material, preservative and flux.
