To the solution of compound 15A (298 g, 1 .93 mol, 1.0 eq) and DIA (98 g, 0.97 mol, 0.5 eq) in DCM (3.5 L) was added NBS (362 g, 2.03 mol, 1 .05 eq) in small portions at -78 °C. The mixture was slowly warmed to room temperature and stirred for 16 h as TLC monitoring showed the completion of reaction. The raction mixture was evaporated to dryness, and the residue was stirred in 1 N HC1 (2 L) 0.5 hour. The precipitate was filtrated to give compound 15B (370 g, 83percent) as light yellow solid.To a solution of 44A (10 g, 0.065 mol) in DCM (300 mL) at -78 oC was added DIA (3.28 g, 0.033 mol), and NBS (12.7 g, 0.071 mol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours before it was concentrated to dryness. The residue was diluted with 1 N HC1 (500 mL) at 0 oC. The precipitate was filtered to afford compound 44B (10.5 g, 69.4 percent) as white solid.
