26-hydroxycholesterol is an oxysterol that is cholesterol substituted at position 26 by a hydroxy group. It has a role as a human metabolite and an EC 3.1.1.1 (carboxylesterase) inhibitor. It is a 26-hydroxy steroid, an oxysterol and a 3beta-hydroxy-Delta(5)-steroid. It derives from a cholesterol.
