Description
Alcohols, C9-11, ethoxylated are substances extracted from palm kernel or coconut oil. They range in state from colorless transparent liquid to white paste. Generally, they are liquid when the EO number is less than 9, paste when the EO number is greater than 10, and solid when the EO number is greater than 20. They belong to the class of nonionic surfactants derived from ethoxylated fatty alcohols. Specifically, their INCI name is Isodeceth-5. These compounds are used in household, industrial and institutional cleaning products due to their strong detergency and dispersing abilities. Their hydrophobic properties make them an effective wetting agent, as well as an emulsifier and surfactant that breaks the surface tension of water to make items clean. They are also commonly used in wastewater treatment.
