The m-bromochlorobenzene is made into Grignard reagent and reacted with acetaldehyde and ammonium chloride in sequence. The reaction product is separated by vacuum distillation to obtain the product 1-(m-chlorophenyl)ethanol.
Used in organic synthesis.
