The preparation method is to put 7-chloro-8-methylquinoline and o-dichlorobenzene into the reactor, add the catalyst azobisisobutyronitrile, heat up, ventilate chlorine, and use gas chromatography to control the unreacted quinoline. The content is less than or equal to 1%. The o-dichlorobenzene is recovered by desolvation to obtain a mixture of 3, 7-dichloro-8-chloromethylquinoline and 3, 7-dichloro-8-dichloromethylquinoline.
3,7-Dichloro-8-chloromethylquinoline is an intermediate of the herbicide dichloroquinoline.
