STAGE A ethyl 2-fluoro 4-thiazole carboxylate A suspension of 2.1 g of ethyl 2-chloro 4-thiazole carboxylate, 15 ml of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and 2 g of potassium fluoride was heated to 140 C. for 20 hours and the product was chromatographed, eluding with a hexane-ethyl acetate mixture (80-20) to obtain 0.82 g of the desired product melting at 74 C.
