Description
Zinc acetate dihydrate Zn(C2H3O2)•2H2O is a Colourless or white efflorescent crystals; faint acetic acid odor; astringent taste; monoclinic crystals; density 1.735 g/cm3; loses water at 100°C; decomposes at 237°C; readily dissolves in water, 43g/100 mL at 20°C; soluble in alcohol. Zinc acetate occurs as white crystalline, lustrous plates with a faint acetic odor and an astringent taste.
Colourless crystals or fine, off-white powder
Zinc Acetate is a zinc salt of acetic acid essential for the synthesis of cholesterol, protein, and fats. Zinc plays an important role in the proper functioning of the immune system. Zinc is required for the enzyme activities necessary for cell division, cell growth, and wound healing as well as the release of vitamin A from the liver. It plays a role in the acuity of the senses of smell and taste and is required to maintain prostate reproductive health and insulin function. Zinc is also involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates. Zinc acetate is administered orally or parenterally as a nutritional supplement.|A salt produced by the reaction of zinc oxide with acetic acid and used as an astringent, styptic, and emetic.

Zinc acetate dihydrate Use and Manufacturing
Zinc acetate is a salt with the formula Zn(O2CCH3)2, which commonly occurs as the dihydrate Zn(O2CCH3)2(H2O)2. Both the hydrate and the anhydrous forms are colorless solids that are commonly used in chemical synthesis and as dietary supplements. Zinc acetates are prepared by the action of acetic acid on zinc carbonate or zinc metal. When used as a food additive, it has the E number E650.
