Description
A dibenzazepine that acts as a sodium channel blocker. It is used as an anticonvulsant for the treatment of grand mal and psychomotor or focal SEIZURES. It may also be used in the management of BIPOLAR DISORDER, and has analgesic properties.
Drug Information
Agents that are used to treat bipolar disorders or mania associated with other affective disorders. (See all compounds classified as Antimanic Agents.)|A class of drugs that act by inhibition of sodium influx through cell membranes. Blockade of sodium channels slows the rate and amplitude of initial rapid depolarization, reduces cell excitability, and reduces conduction velocity. (See all compounds classified as Sodium Channel Blockers.)|A subclass of analgesic agents that typically do not bind to OPIOID RECEPTORS and are not addictive. Many non-narcotic analgesics are offered as NONPRESCRIPTION DRUGS. (See all compounds classified as Analgesics, Non-Narcotic.)|Drugs used to prevent SEIZURES or reduce their severity. (See all compounds classified as Anticonvulsants.)|Drugs and compounds that induce the synthesis of CYTOCHROME P-450 CYP3A. (See all compounds classified as Cytochrome P-450 CYP3A Inducers.)
