Methyl benzilate Use and Manufacturing
Benzoin is generated by the reaction of benzaldehyde sodium cyanide, and then reacted with potassium bromate to obtain benzene hydroxy acid, and finally obtained by esterification with methanol. 1. Benzoin Mix 4L of benzaldehyde with 6L of ethanol, add a solution of 60g of sodium cyanide solution in 500ml of water, heat to reflux for 2h, cool, filter, wash with water, and filter to dryness to obtain 4.5kg of product. 2. Preparation of diphenyl glycolic acid Mix 8kg of wet benzoin, 15L of water, 58kg of 16% sodium hydroxide solution and 2kg of potassium bromate, heating and stirring to react for 4h. The reaction mixture was diluted with 2 times water, cooled and acidified with dilute sulfuric acid to control the pH to 7-8, and filtered. The filtrate is acidified to a pH of 1-2 and filtered to obtain about 8kg of crude product. 3. Preparation of methyl diphenylhydroxyacetate Mix 4kg diphenylhydroxy acid with 5L methanol, add 150ml sulfuric acid, and heat to reflux for 2h. Pour into 30L water containing 300g of sodium carbonate, stir and filter to obtain 3kg of crude product. Recrystallize with methanol, add activated carbon for decolorization, and dry at 60°C to obtain about 2.8kg of finished product.
