Methods of Manufacturing

A mixture of diethyl 2-(( 1 H-pyrrolo [2, 3 -b]pyridin-3 -yl)methyl)-2- acetamidomalonate (3.5 g, 10.08 mmol) and hydrochloric acid, 37percent (30 mL) was refluxed for 15 h an the concentrated to 10 mL. The product was treated with acetonitrile (5 mL) and lyophilized to give an off-white solid. This was re-dissolved in 15percent NH4OH to pH 7 and the solution was then diluted with water (20 mL). The precipitatedwhite solid was collected by filtration, washed with water and EtOH and dried to yield 2- amino-3-(1H-pyrrolo[2, 3-b]pyridin-3-yl)propanoic acid (1.5 g, 72.5 percent) as a white solid. Analysis LCMS Condition A: Retention time = 0.29 mm; ESI-MS(+) m/z 206.0 (M+H).

An unusual alpha-amino acid with a very potent fluorescent activity.Its used as a vehicle for probing the structure and dynamics of protein and peptides
