Sodium sorbate Use and Manufacturing
It is neutralized by sorbic acid and sodium alkali.
Preservatives, antioxidants. Sodium sorbate has high antibacterial properties, and has an inhibitory effect on bacteria, molds and yeasts, especially good anti-mold effect. It is widely used in food, beverages, cosmetics and medicine, and has the characteristics of good safety, high antiseptic performance, and fewer side effects than benzoic acid. So it will be used to replace the toxic additive sodium benzoate. Sorbic acid (sodium sorbate, potassium sorbate) is used as a preservative. It has been widely used at home and abroad. Although it has not been found to be harmful or toxic to the human body, some preservatives have shown carcinogenicity in animal experiments, such as canned food Sorbic acid in food preservatives may be related to the formation of fibrosarcoma.
... CLOSTRIDIA CELLS & SPORES RESIST CONCN OF SORBIC ACID WHICH ARE INHIBITORY TO MAJORITY OF OTHER BACTERIA TESTED. /SORBIC ACID/|THE SORBATES HAVE BEEN FOUND GENERALLY SUPERIOR TO BENZOATES FOR PRESERVATION OF MARGARINE, CHEESE, FISH, BREAD & CAKE. /SORBATES/|SORBATES AFFECT YEASTS AS WELL AS MOLDS & ... AS WITH OTHER WEAK ACID MICROBIAL INHIBITORS, ACTIVITY OF SORBATE INCREASES AS PH OF MEDIUM DECLINES. /SORBATES/|For more General Manufacturing Information (Complete) data for SODIUM SORBATE (10 total), please visit the HSDB record page.
