Description

The monohydrate is a white crystalline or powdery substance; density 4.3g/cm3; decomposes on heating; soluble in water and nitric acid; insoluble in alcohol.
It is stable and hygroscopic. Mercuric nitrate is incompatible with mercuric nitrate in contact with organic materials, powdered metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, hypophosphoric acid, unsaturates, and aromatics, which react violently. Mercuric nitrate is a white to yellowish crystalline solid with an odor like nitric acid. Normally e

MERCURICNITRATE,MONOHYDRATE Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The nitric acid is added to an acid-resistant reactor filled with distilled water, heated to 40-50°C, mercury is slowly added to react, concentrated by evaporation, cooled and crystallized, and filtered to obtain mercury nitrate monohydrate. Hg+2HNO3+H2O→Hg(NO3)2·H2O+H2↑

Uses

For determination of halide and cyanide, preparation of Milon reagent and pharmaceutical industry
