Calcium tungstate Use and Manufacturing
Calcium tungstate is produced by reacting calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide with tungsten oxide or tungsten hydroxide in an alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate solution. Sodium tungstate and sodium sulfide are mixed and dissolved in water, and then zinc chloride aqueous solution is added, filtered, and the filtrate is treated with pure calcium chloride to prepare calcium tungstate.
Very small crystals have been used for injection into malignant tumors, etc., thus affording by transillumination a means of x-ray treatment; for preparing screens for x-ray observations and photographs; in luminous paints; in scintillation counters.
