Acidic salts, such as CUPRIC TARTRATE, are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and have pH's of less than 7.0. They react as acids to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of inorganic acids, inorganic oxoacids, and carboxylic acid. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. Many of these compounds catalyze organic reactions.

/FORMER USE:/ POTENT EMETICS. SERIOUS TOXICITY IF RETAINED. /COPPER SALTS (CUPRIC)/
INHALATION: Inhalation of dust may cause nasal congestion. EYES: May cause conjunctivitis and edema of eyelids. SKIN: May irritate skin. INGESTION: Vomiting is caused by local irritant and astringent action of ionic copper on stomach and bowel. (USCG, 1999)
Call a physician. EYES: Flush with water. SKIN: Wash with water. INGESTION: Induce vomiting and administer gastric lavage. Give saline cathartic. (USCG, 1999)
SYMPTOMATOLOGY: PROMPT EMESIS (USUALLY WITHIN 5 TO 10 MIN /AFTER INGESTION/). ... BURNING PAIN IN MOUTH, ESOPHAGUS, & STOMACH. METALLIC TASTE IN MOUTH. DIARRHEA WITH OR WITHOUT COLICKY ABDOMINAL PAIN ... MELENA OR OCCULT BLOOD IN FECES. ... HEADACHE, COLD SWEAT, WEAK PULSE & OTHER SIGNS OF SHOCK ... .|JAUNDICE ... WHEN SEVERE, IT IS USUALLY DUE TO HEPATIC NECROSIS WITH SWOLLEN & PAINFUL LIVER. SOMETIMES LESION IS PROGRESSIVE. MILD JAUNDICE MAY EVIDENCE ACUTE HEMOLYTIC CRISIS WITHOUT LIVER INJURY.
