Description
Tuberose absolute is obtained by solvent extraction, via the concrete, from the blossoms of Polianthes tuberosa L. (Agavaceae) cultivated in Indiawhere 1–2 t are produced annually. It is an orange to brown liquid with a sweet, narcotic blossom odor and is used in modern, floral perfume compositions. Its main constituents are esters of benzoic acid. The concrete, obtained in approximately 1.20 to 1.50% yields, is a soft mass with a yellowish-brown color and sweet, floral, extremely intense odor.
Tuberoseabsolute Use and Manufacturing
It is obtained by extracting flowers of Polianthes tuberosa from the Amaryllidaceae plant with petroleum ether. The yield is 0.08%-0.14%. It can also be prepared by cold absorption method, and the yield can reach 0.66%. The output is very small and it is one of the precious spices. It was originally produced in Central America and East India, and is also cultivated in my country (Hangzhou, Nanjing), France, Italy, and Morocco.
GB 2760-96 stipulates that it is allowed to use edible spices (extract).
