1,4-Dibromopentane Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The 2-methyltetrahydrofuran is synthesized by ring-opening bromination with hydrobromic acid and sulfuric acid. First, add hydrobromic acid to the reaction pot to cool, slowly add 2-methyltetrahydrofuran and sulfuric acid in sequence with stirring, and finish adding when the temperature does not exceed 40°C. Warm up to 60°C, react for 2h, and then react at 80-85°C for 4h. After cooling, divide the bromide and wash with water to neutrality to obtain dibromopentane oil. The yield was 92.5%. The industrial product content is above 90%. Raw material consumption quota: 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (90%) 410kg/t, hydrobromic acid (≥48%) 2400kg/t.

Uses

It is mainly used as an alkylating agent in organic synthesis and as an intermediate of the antimalarial primaquine phosphate in the pharmaceutical industry.
