Amobarbital sodium Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

It is derived from the salt of isopentobarbital (see 02870). Prepare the ethanol solution of sodium hydroxide first, dissolve the isoamtobarbital in the ethanol solution of sodium hydroxide, add activated carbon, and decolorize for half an hour under stirring at room temperature. The activated carbon is filtered off, and the filtrate is distilled under reduced pressure to recover ethanol. Acetone was added to crystallize the sodium isoamylbarbitone. Filter and dry under reduced pressure to obtain the product with a yield of 70%.

This product is a hypnotic for medium time.
