General Procedure D for the Synthesis of Fluoroethyl Substituted Indan Ureas: To a solution of 3-(substituted-phenyl)-propionic acid in CHStep 3; To a cold (ice water) solution of the previous ketone (791 mg; 5.3 mmol) in methanol (5 mL) is added sodium borohydride (203 mg; 5.3 mmol) and stirred thirty minutes. Water (5 mL) is added to the solution and stirred 15 minutes. Saturated ammonium chloride (14 mL) is added and the solution is extracted with ethyl acetate. The organics are separated and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent is removed to give 407 milligrams of 4-fluoroindan-l-ol.
