Methods of Manufacturing

Cool the sodium formate and ether to 3-5°C, add acetyl chloride dropwise with stirring, then increase the temperature to 25-30°C, and stir to react for 6h. After filtering, the filter cake is washed with equal amounts of ether, combined and washed, and the filtrate is evaporated to remove the ether to obtain methyl acetic anhydride. The yield was 97%.

Uses

It is a useful formylating agent in organic synthesis.
