L-Phenylalanine (5 g, 30 mmol) was taken up in EtOH (30 mL). TMSCl (6.915 mL, 54 mmol) was added to the reaction at RT. The reaction vessel was fitted with a reflux condenser and the reaction was placed in an 80° C. bath. The reaction was stirred overnight.
