Description
white to light yellow crystal powdeChEBI: A C-nitro compound that is phenylhydrazine substituted at the 2- and 4-positions by nitro groups.2,4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine (abbreviated 2,4-DNP for short) is the chemical compound C6H3 (NO2) 2NHNH2, and it is often used to qualitatively test for carbonyl groups associated with aldehydes and ketones. The hydrazone derivatives can also be used as evidence toward the identity of the original compound. It is relatively sensitive to shock and friction; it

(2,4-Dinitrophenyl)hydrazine Use and Manufacturing
Hydrazine sulfate was suspended in hot water, potassium acetate was added with stirring, the mixture was boiled for 5 min, cooled to 70°C, and ethanol was added. The solid was filtered and washed with ethanol, and the filtrate was a hydrazine solution. Dissolve 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene in ethanol, add the above hydrazine solution, stir to reflux for 1h, cool and filter, wash off the unreacted raw materials with ethanol, wash with hot water, and dry to obtain 2, 4- Dinitrophenylhydrazine (some products can be recovered by concentration of the filtrate), the yield is 81-85%.
2,4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine is known was Brady's reagent, a substituted hydrazine that is often used for qualitative testing of carbonyl groups associated with aldehydes and ketones.
