Pyrazine-2, 3-dicarboxylic acid (4.0 g, 23.8 mmol) was dissolved in acetic anhydride (30 mL).The reaction mixture was refluxed for one hour, and subsequently cooled down to 0 °C in ice bath.The obtained crystals of pyrazine-2, 3-dicarboxylic anhydride were filtered off (yield 70percent).
