Description

Colorless oily liquid with a slightly aromatic fragrance. Immiscibility with ethanol, ethyl ether , soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, acetone, insoluble in water and mineral oil. colourless oily liquid Dimethyl phthalate occurs as a colorless, or faintly colored, odorless, viscous, oily liquid.A water-white liquid without significant odor. Denser than water and insoluble in water. Hence sinks in water. Flash point 300°F. Eye contact may produce severe irritation and direct skin c

Dimethyl phthalate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The preparation method is to perform esterification reaction with phthalic anhydride and methanol, the reaction temperature is reflux temperature, and the reaction takes about ten hours. The obtained crude ester is neutralized, washed with water and distilled to obtain the product.

Uses

Solvent and plasticizer for cellulose acetate and cellulose acetate-butyrate compositions.Insect repellent for personal protection against biting insects.
