Potassium silicate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

In the melting method, the silica sand and caustic potash are mixed in a certain ratio and then added to the melting furnace, which is heated to 1200 to 1400°C with heavy oil or electricity. When a completely molten transparent body is formed, it is discharged from the furnace to cool and solidify, and then put into the autoclave , Dissolved by pressurized steam (0.2MPa). The solution is allowed to stand for clarification to remove impurities, and the clarified solution is concentrated to obtain a finished product of potassium silicate. Its 2KOH+Nso2→K2O@nSiO2+H2O

Uses

As binder (e.g., in carbon electrodes, lead pencils, protective coatings, insoluble pigments); detergent, in glass and ceramics manufacture.
