Drug Function and Efficacy

It reduces peripheral and hepatic insulin resistance, increases insulin-dependent glucose processing, and reduces hepatic glucose output; it is a highly selective agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), activating PPARγ nuclear receptors in tissues such as fat, skeletal muscle and liver where insulin acts, regulating the transcription of insulin-responsive genes, and controlling the production, transport and utilization of blood glucose.
