How is aluminium manufactured and its properties

ECHEMI 2022-12-09

How is aluminium manufactured is a question that many people are interested in, since it is not a very well known material. Aluminum is easy to work with and easy to use, so it has become the most used product all around the world. The easiest way to manufacture aluminum is through electrolysis. This process involves putting two plates of the material into conductive liquids, usually salty water. Electricity will then go through both plates and create ions that bond together on one side of the liquid-solid interface and separate on the other side (the aluminum electrodes). This creates a thin layer of pure aluminum oxide where they meet, which consumes all of the water in its vicinity.

Properties of aluminium

1. Good conductor of electricity

This property helps many industries such as oil, electric power, and aluminum to regulate the electric current of the machines in their processes. It is also used for electrical devices such as fuses. Every time that there is a spark caused by an electric current, it causes dust to form on its surface. This dust can cause trouble and problems in many industries using aluminium, so it must be cleaned from time to time.

2. Great conductor of heat

Aluminium has the property of conducting heat very well. This makes it perfect for use in kitchens and heating appliances because they use large amounts of this material in its production. It is also used for the production of heaters and ovens because it boils water very well. This explains how is aluminium manufactured.

Aluminium has a low density, which means that it floats in water but it is a common metal, so nobody can tell that it is not an ordinary metal. This makes it easy to store and transport. Aluminium has a good form of conductivity, which makes its products highly efficient that they do not need many adapters to use them. Aluminium also tends to be less porous than other metals.

3. Good malleability

Aluminium is one of the two most durable metals that are used in many products. It is also used to produce a large number of objects such as: dishes, home appliances, and storage containers. This metal also has a very good appearance.

4. Easy to recycle

This property of aluminium allows it to be used in many products because it is not only strong but also easy to use and recycle, which lowers the cost of its production. The main source of aluminium recycling is the aluminium cans found in homes, restaurants and factories. These can be recycled without taking much time.

6. Not corroded by moisture

Because aluminium is not corroded by moisture, it can be used in objects that will be exposed to humidity. For example, the bottom of boats and airplanes are made of aluminium to prevent them from corrosion. This metal can also be used in water pipes with no problem because the oxygen usually found in water does not affect its properties. The only problem with this is the fact that its metal is highly reactive towards active metals like iron and manganese.

Uses of aluminium

1. The first major use of aluminium was in the production of aircraft

This metal was used because it does not corrode when exposed to liquids and steam, which made it very good for planes. There are also many types of aluminium alloys that are used for these planes. The advantage of this metal is that it is easy to recycle and does not corrode unlike other metals such as steel and iron.

2. The second major use of aluminium was in the making of cars

This metal has many advantages over other metals, especially when it comes to cars, where there many components that need to be replaced very frequently. This is mostly because of the transport of materials that are very difficult to transport, and it is much better to use aluminium alloys, which are strong and almost unbreakable.

3. The third major use of aluminium was in the manufacture of different types of utensils and cookware

Aluminium can easily be recycled, so it is not only used in utensils that can't be recycled but also the pots and pans. Many people still use pots and pans made from this metal because it is affordable and can resist heat without burning or melting. It also has a long life span, so large amounts don't have to be replaced for some time.

In conclusion, how is aluminium manufactured, has many advantages. This metal is good for the production of electric energy because it uses it to produce heat and also, it is very popular in the welding industry because aluminium welding rods can be used in pipe production, heating machines and electric equipment.
