For plastic products, Clariant's bio-based additives are certified

ECHEMI 2020-08-11

Clariant announced that the bio-based processing and dispersing additives for biopolymers in plastic products-Licocare RBW Vita series, Licolub FA 1 and Licowax C-have received the "OK Industrial Compostable" certification. The testing and certification organization TüV Austria also awarded Licocare RBW 102 Vita the "OK biodegradable in soil" label, which is a key attribute for agricultural applications.

According to reports, Licocare RBW Vita additives, containing at least 98% renewable ingredients, enable biopolymer manufacturers and compounding manufacturers to achieve faster processing speeds and further improve performance, especially in improving the surface gloss of the final product Degree, smoothness and improved durability.

Manuel Mueller, global market segment director of Clariant's additives business unit, said that this "OK Industrial Compostable" certification strengthens Clariant's cooperation with customers. In addition, Licocare RBW 102 Vita has been awarded the "OK biodegradable in soil" label. The product can be used to enhance the application of agricultural coatings, such as fertilizers, additives and seeds. In these areas, Licocare RBW 102 Vita can improve film formation and fluidity, and improve water resistance and anti-caking properties. In addition, the biodegradable function can reduce the impact of the coating on the soil environment. These certifications are just the latest addition to the Licocare RBW Vita solution that has been given the EcoTain label. Many products in this series also have the material health gold certificate from Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute.

Mueller said: "For a long time, due to the lack of suitable bio-based additives and other reasons, the conversion of bioplastics into viable commercial products has been restricted. The application of these solutions will not compromise the compostability or biodegradability of the final product. , So they have made a valuable contribution to the creation of truly recycled packaging and consumer products and the reduction of petrochemical waste."
