Asia Pacific Coatings Show 2016

2022-08-24

The recent storms along the US Gulf Coast that impacted the OCI Beaumont ammonia plant did not affect methanol production, the company said Monday.

OCI Partners operates the OCI Beaumont facility which houses both methanol and ammonia production. The site includes a methanol production capacity of 912,500 mt/year.

The weather event that impacted the ammonia plant had "no impact on methanol," company spokesman Omar Darwazah said.

The company shut down the ammonia plant after thunder and lightning led to electrical issues at a gas compressor at the ammonia plant, the company said in a filing.

OCI replaced the impacted electrical devices then restarted the ammonia unit, according to the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The US Gulf Coast, particularly Louisiana, encountered stormy weather and flooding in recent days. A major disaster was declared in Louisiana over the weekend after severe flooding there.

In spot markets, S&P Global Platts assessed US methanol on Monday at 60.75-61.25 cents/gal FOB USG for August and September.
