China and France issued a joint statement, and the national cosmetics went to sea to welcome major benefits
As a major exporter of cosmetics, France has made great economic contributions from cosmetics. According to the latest data from the Federation of French Cosmetics Enterprises, the trade surplus of the French cosmetics industry in 2022 will be 15.6 billion euros, second only to the aviation industry (23 billion euros) and the wine and spirits industry (16 billion euros).
In the past three years, China has been an important country for the export of French cosmetics. According to data from the French Federation of Beauty Enterprises (FEBEA), China has become the largest exporter of French cosmetics for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021.
The proportion of French cosmetics in my country's imported cosmetics is also in the forefront. According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2022, French cosmetics (beauty products or cosmetics and skin care products, including sunscreen or tanning oil; nail cosmetics, perfume sprayers or similar cosmetic sprayers and their holders and nozzles; puffs and powder filming, applying powder or cosmetics) the total import in my country is 30.442 billion yuan. In the same year, France surpassed Japan and the United States to become my country's largest importer of cosmetics.
Well-known French cosmetics-related companies include L'Oreal, LVMH, L'Occitane, Avène, Caudalie, etc., all of which have a certain reputation in my country.
Among them, L'Oreal, as the world's largest beauty makeup group, owns Helena, Skincare, Kiehl's, Lancome, Armani, YSL, Yue Sai, La Roche-Posay, Shu Uemura and many other beauty brands developed in China. LVMH has Guerlain, Dior, Givenchy, Pui Lingfei, MAKE UP FOREVER, Parma Water and many other beauty brands that have entered China. At the same time, its offline beauty chain brand Sephora has opened more than 200 stores in China.
These French companies have been developing in China for many years. With the continuous improvement of the importance of the Chinese market, their emphasis on the Chinese market has also deepened year by year. At present, China has become L'Oreal's second largest market in the world. In recent years, L'Oreal has continuously increased its investment in China, and successively established factories, R&D and innovation centers, supply chain management centers, and intelligent operation centers in China; A RMB fund has been specially established to increase investment in China, and the areas of focus include the beauty track.
With the issuance of the Sino-French Joint Statement, many Chinese and French companies have signed cooperation agreements. Among them, L'Oreal and Alibaba signed a three-year strategic cooperation agreement to jointly create the industry's first "beauty digital circular economy model".
With the deepening of China-France high-level diplomacy, the pace of French beauty companies' development in China may become faster and faster. In the future, more small and medium-sized French brands may enter China one after another, presenting consumers with more colorful French beauty products.
At present, the export of Chinese cosmetics is still in its infancy. According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2022, China's total exports of beauty cosmetics and toiletries will be 37.65 billion yuan, a substantial increase of 20.1% year-on-year. But compared with the 153.67 billion yuan of import data, there is still a lot of room for development.
Among my country's beauty exporting countries, France has ranked among the top ten in terms of export value for several years. According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, the amount of cosmetics exported from my country to France in 2022 will account for 3.83% of the total export value, which is about 1.4 billion yuan.
At this stage, the export of Chinese cosmetics is mainly based on OEM. Although the R&D and manufacturing of domestic cosmetics started relatively late compared with Europe, the United States, Japan and other places, the Chinese cosmetics industry has formed its own core competitiveness in production and manufacturing after learning, absorbing, innovating, and upgrading, and is moving towards high-quality, high-quality products. Technological development and transformation.
At present, all major cosmetic brands in the world have important Chinese suppliers, such as Lancôme, Chanel, Shiseido, L'Oreal and other brands have cooperation with Taihe Biotech, Paris Di and other domestic foundries.
According to the requirements of the "14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China and Outline of Long-term Goals for 2035", my country will take the lead in cultivating a number of Chinese high-end brands in the fields of cosmetics, clothing, home textiles, electronic products and other consumer goods. With the improvement of domestic cosmetics research and development capabilities, in recent years, China's cosmetics industry has ushered in a big explosion, and a group of "Xin Guozhuang" brands have emerged alongside international big names in terms of product quality and efficacy.
At the same time, the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that China adheres to the correct direction of economic globalization, promotes trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and promotes bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation. In this context, national cosmetics going overseas has become an inevitable trend in the development of China's cosmetics industry.
France is a major cosmetics country in the world. In the process of gradually deepening the exchanges between the cosmetics industry of China and France, it can not only achieve bilateral improvement in technological innovation, but also Chinese cosmetics can bring Chinese culture and "Chinese cosmetics story" to the world.
